Great Northern Greenway – Derby
Local authorities have made considerable effort to reduce the impact they have on their local environment. Most will also look to innovate to find easier, safer and better ways of doing things. Derbyshire Highways for example have used Durakerb for many years.
A typical example can be found on the A608 which runs adjacent to the Great Northern Greenway. Over 300 units of Durakerb were installed in 2009 along two sections of the main highway. Each unit contains the equivalent of 182no recycled plastic bottles and caps which are still fixed and performing as intended when installed over 10 years ago.
Durakerb is a solution for highways that provides for carbon reduction in manufacture, installation, with potential to re-use, recycle or recover carbon at the end of life. With over 400,000 units in service across the UK and Ireland Durakerb is now proven as a real, established and long term solution and an example for how we can use and re-use waste materials.
